They are the same units. The only real difference is the 2 year warranty on the 800 and 1 year on the 8000. The 800 comes with the ipod cable and the 8000 you have to buy it. They both have the same bluetooth. I have the 800 and it works good.

Im using one now for a year and i like it. Bluetooth works great and the usb is the fastest i have used.

Sounds to me that the stock amp isn't turning on. You need to find the wiring diagram for that stock system and make sure the amp is wired up correctly.
