I'm sure you could use the aux input but you wouldn't be able to control the iPod from the radio. I just looked it up and it says "iPod Adapter Ready with New Full Control" so it looks like you do need an adapter. Do you think that you have the wrong one, maybe?

You had a 3906 E-Maxx which is not brushless ready. The newer 3905 E-Maxx would have easily taken the brushless power. It even comes in a 3908 model which already has a brushless motor on it.
