    Identifying old mtx sub

I haven't kept up with their equipment much (with 20 year old equipment from them that still works great, I had no reason to), but I'd still give them a shot the next time I'm in the market. Following their Facebook page, it seems their main focus now is the UTV market, and not much new in the...

    Identifying old mtx sub

I'd love to have a couple of those in my semi. It's about the only vehicle capable of holding such a beast! I also loved the RFL subs. I never heard them in person, but the name... Lol. (R)eally (F)'ing (L)oud

    Identifying old mtx sub

Loyd Ivey is still around as CEO of Mitek, which owns the MTX brand now, but I also just found a bio from him at CTA, being involved with a political action committee. I thought he had passed away, but seems I was mistaken. Lol.

    Identifying old mtx sub

That looks like one of their old school home/PA audio line of subs. I couldn't find any model or spec info, though. This was the closest I found on an image search.

    1 sub 2 speakers vs 4 speakers

If this is going to be up top with all the wind, waves, and engine noise, I'd go with the two larger full range speakers if you only want one mounting location. 4 speakers would be ok if you installed them front and rear.

    PLEASE HELP

Ask them if they can dumb down the explanation for you, or at least get it in writing so you can share it here for us to help you understand it. It does sound like they are trying to make a buck if they told you the amp wasn't strong enough, but their explanation of why it's going into safety...

running wire and acceptable wire size

If your wire is that small, I'd run new wire if you're talking about 100 watts RMS per channel. Car manufacturers are only going to install a thick enough wire for their weak radios, not full blown systems. It's just not a chance I'd want to take with that much of a power increase. If you had...

    Build Advice Please!

For his setup of a single 12" sub and amp, I still doubt the mileage drop would be noticeable, either by tracking with pen and paper or the pocket book. I'm running a couple 10" MTX Blue Thunder Xtreme's, which are no lightweight. All in, I'm maybe 80 lbs of hardware. No more than 100 lbs for...

    Tuning Advice

A sealed box isn't tuned. It is what it is. Ported boxes can have the port turned, but that wouldn't apply to your situation. You're also not putting much power to it (nor should you, if the one I just looked at was the same as yours, rated 150W RMS), so you're not going to get a ton of volume...

    Build Advice Please!

Unless you're going monstrous, I doubt the fuel mileage loss would be measurable. You MAY drop to 32.5 mpg, but there's so many variables involved that there's no way to tell for certain. If using an extra gallon of gas every 10,000 miles is a make or break deal, then you wouldn't be considering...

Adjusting the gain in my kenwood head unit

Distortion via clipping is when you try to make an amp play beyond its limits. Instead of a smooth in and out motion, the speaker cone is held at a given position. This can kill a speaker quickly, and is usually heard as an unclear sound. A tweeter can sound harsh, sometimes like a clashing of...

Adjusting the gain in my kenwood head unit

The radio would power those MB Quarts fine, just not as loud as if you put a full 60 watts to them. I'm still kinda leaning towards this being an EQ issue, but you did say in the first post that they had been clipping. If this only happens when maxing out the radio, then I would agree those...

Adjusting the gain in my kenwood head unit

Could you elaborate on what you mean by "really high pitchy ness ?" Like is it just too loud on the high notes, are you hearing distortion, or something else? Is the volume otherwise to your liking if not for this issue (I.e. Are you having to max it out.) Also, are you running any other...

Advice for a car audio newcomer. Is this the best option for me?

Go to www.Crutchfeild.com and input your vehicle info. From there, you can pick and choose head units and speakers that will fit. The installation kits are sold at a discount when you buy the head unit, and speakers usually come with free mounting adaptors and wire harness adaptors. They also...

Advice for a car audio newcomer. Is this the best option for me?

I'm a Pioneer fan when it comes to head units, so that would be my choice between those two (currently running an AVH-X4800BS). I do my own installs, so I wouldn't know if that all in price is a good deal.
