the current dustcap has a crack in it and a hole where air is leaking through and causing the sub to pop and over excurt(sp?).couldnt i just cut around the outside and take it off?

so i bought a used kenwood double din and hooked up my subs and was getting this whine and when i would rev my engine it would get louder accordingly. ( this sound was from the subs) . when i tried to play them they were playing really sloppy and didnt sound right at all. so I tried grounding...
