Nope. I know it's not the ground. I have 2 8g and 1 2g ground coming off of my batteries. I also have two Optimas so I know it's not them either.

I doubt it was a fuse with the noise that was made. Fuse's rarely produce a smell that can be detected easily, unless it's a very large fuse. I think a speaker was somehow blown. And that would cause the decks auto-protect circuit to kick in, thus not killing the deck, but stopping sound. LocoMC

That cap should be helping enough. I'd go with the alternator since a system is only as good as it base parts. You should be able to get like a 120 amp alt in like JcWhitney for 150 bucks, which is definitely cheaper than any good 1 farad cap you can get.

Weird. I thought it would be a crap power wiring setup. I can only say make sure that you're grounds are solid. And that includes your batteries negative connection to the chassis as well. If price is no problem, it's kind of a moot question. Rockford's are always great with JL's, Excelon, MA Audio, Xtant, Kicker, MTX, the list goes on. Those were just the ones that came to mind. Just don't buy at Wal*Mart (Or any other *mart for that matter.) and you'l be fine.

Rockfords are a god pair to any JL sub. I'm a big fan of Ma Audio and Kenwood Excelon too.

Many amps can run below their minimum ohm rating. It's seriously not recommended since you could damage the amp. I mean, I've had Ma Audio amps that are rated for 1 ohm and run them at .5, and have had even Jensen amps running down to 1 ohm. SO it could be done, I wouldn't though. You'll lose...
