13 JLw7 in avalanche

Hi guys I'm new to this forum and wondering if you guys can help me.

I have a chev avalanche with a 13w7 in a ported box where my midgate would go and have the sub firing forward and it's loud but sounds good for very few songs. Since the sub is firing forward do you think that could be why? I am thinking going two 10s or a bandpass box so the sub fires backwards. Powered by mtx1501
