Hi,

My first post. I want to bypass my factory amp in my 2000 Toyota Avalon. I know the amp is under the seat and I know there is a bypass kit from Metra 70-8116.

However, when I look at the website that sells it, they don't show a connection to the factory sub woofer. Is my understanding correct and if this is the case, what's the easiest way to get around this?

Thanks for the responses!

My original intention was to just replace the factory sub in the car and I could do that by using the current sub wires and converting them to line into the 5-ch after market alpine amp I have and call it a day. However, my daughter (her car) wants me to install the amp using all 5-ch and power the front and rear speakers. Not a bad idea but I can't seem to figure out an easy way to do it.

Metra makes a "amp bypass" wire (metra 70-8116) but it doesn't have the sub wires connected and I know they are there (see post above). Also and worse yet, from what I can tell the amp bypass only gets me access to speaker level inputs which would mean I'd have to convert to aline voltage for every speaker... is this right??? Is there a better way to do this?

Thanks again!!

you could use all five channels to power front/rear/sub. i would just wire the sub directly since those wires are likely to be readily accessible in the trunk. same with the rear speakers.

you'll need a 4 channel LOC for front and rear if the amp doesn't have high-level inputs. David Navone makes some of the best.

for the sub wires, you'll need another 2 channel LOC or just have the sub run from the front/rear inputs. some amps will internally sum that signal for the 5th channel. what is the model number of the Alpine amp?

i agree this harness will work for easy access to the speaker wires.
