My car has a stock 10" sub in the rear parcel tray which I can remove to create a 10" port from the boot to the cabin. I have a JL 12W3v3 in a box in the boot.

If I remove the stock sub and leave a large hole, will it supply more bass at less volume in the cabin? (good way to avoid excessive rattles etc..)

Give it a try? Or don't bother?

Do I need to put on my Einstein hat to calculate the best port size?

Or does it not really matter what size the port is?

remove it.

Not that simple man. I'd advise you to pay for a proper design(around 10 dollars) or learn to properly design a box using Winisd and torres box calculator, both are free softwares. You also need to know how to calculate whats the best minimum port area that is needed for your sub too. Cant just slap on a 10 inch port or a 4 inch port.

You also need to seal up the port so no bass can get back in the trunk.

Ok I'll leave it as is for now.

Well I might just go ahead and remove the stock 10" for laughs, if it sounds the same or worse I'll put it back in.

"6th order enclosure" is new to me. I'll just determine what sounds better... Hole or no hole. Leave it at that. Sounds pretty decent now anyway with the stock sub as it is so it's all good.

Thanks for the help.

I hope that stock sub is not hooked up lol. If you remove the sub only, it should net you some decent gains.

this is a 6th order. Its the same with your setup with the trunk itself acting like an enclosure. I'd definitely not recommend putting a port, all you need is to just remove the stock sub and leave it like that.

lol no it has been disconnected, the wiring for the stock sub is redirected into the high level inputs into the Audison Amp for the JL sub.

It probably wouldn't make much difference anyway, the JL Sub is 10x more powerful than the stock Audi Amp :p

Actually, it'll make you lose output if you have the stock sub and JL sub playing at once, It'll be out of phase and cancels out a lot of the bass making overall bass a lot weaker. Good that its not connected.

Ok I see what you mean, it makes sense. Cancellation is not what we want.

Wow that 6th order setup looks interesting but I'm happy with the current bass output so no need to go to that extreme //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Whatever sounds better, be it stock sub removed or stock sub left in, I'll leave it as that.
