Are comps worth the extra money?

Ok, i'm on a pretty small budget of about $110 Shipped. I need 4" speakers for the front, and 5.25" speakers for the back. (yeah, its a small car, only 4 speakers). I have a JVC head unit, with 4 x 50 watt speaker output.

I found some kenwood speakers for about $100 shipped.

Front: http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=18719

Back: http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=18591

But i can get there 4" Comps for the front: http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=12519

But then i have to get something cheap for the back. (but anything will sound better than what i have now. i don't plan on hooking up an amp to these speakers. So in my situation would comps be better?

Or could you recommend a decent set of speakers for me? fr some reason i like the kenwood's. They seem decent and cheaper than some other brands. But what do i know...

Thanks!

depends on what you are looking for....

loudness such as a sq type comp set...or if you are leaning towards more spl, more bass output than an average comp midwoofer...

just depends...

i would look at the rsd's or the pioneer revs or maybe cdt CL62s

Pass on the PG RSD's, there great speakers, but I've had a lot of issues with the tweeters, and others have as well, it's not worth the trouble...

Yes, theres a pretty decent difference between coaxials and components, especially at high levels... unless the brand they are makes crap all the way around. Go to a local shop and listen to a decent brand coaxial and thne the same brand component, a lot clearer and richer at high levels.

Im not as much into the audiophile SQ stuff as much, so hopefully some of those guys will chime in... but im not exactly sure a 4" component set would have much of an advantage due to their ridiculously small size. It would probably still be better than 4" coaxials.

ya that reminded me, I have seen/read mixed reviews on them lately...some say they are good and some say they arent worth a ****...my apology...disregard the rsd's...the revs are good tho...i finally bought a set for my blazer and they get loud and sound clean and crisp at the same time!

I dont think theres enough difference in loudness between comps and coaxials in a 4" setup.

As long as you buy a decent name brand you could save money and just go coaxial.

Yes, I've had several people come into the shop lately with this problem with the PG RSD's. They had the tweeters either blow or make very little noise to the point you could barely tell they were putting anything out.

Nice soundign speaker, but def some issues with the tweets

my co worker has memphis coaxials that are very clear and loud runnin of like 2x50 amp and memphis tweeters runnin off the deck.they were only like 89 for1 of the pairs cant remember the other.but unless youre gonna amp them, id just go with some 40-50 dollar pairs for front and rear from crutchfeild.they give all the little plastic clips for proper hookups.no wire splicing.I like my music bass heavy anyway so unless you goin bigger than2 12s or 1 15 substage on moderate power you should be fine.i got kicker coaxials runnin off my pioneer 5900 with the hipass filter on to keep the lows out and the do just fine.

These would work well for you.

ok... so its like a 50/50 poll.(Yes, and no not for 4" speakers) I like loud crisp music. Don't really need a lot of bass, i'm getting 2 JL 12" subs, with a 800watt Rockford fosgate amp (next pay).

I do like the Boston Audio coaxial but they are out of stock at sonic elctronix.

Are kenwoods even good anymore? My dad says they are awesome (back in the day i guess they were) but now you don't really hear that much about them.

If you plan on amplifying them at some point, then go with a nice component set. But if they'll never see anything but head unit power, I wouldn't spend more than $60 per set of speakers.
