cirtical?

i have 2/3 steps of the big three done, the alternator positive to battery positive, and the battery neg to chassis, i'm just wondering how critical the chassis to engine block is? i just cant get it done yet because of time and its in a really hard spot (the engine block part) and the bolt is realllly tight, haha.
