Well I personally have a Clarion 835 but I use the Alpine 9813 all the time at work. I like the Clarion better, but that's just me. But then again I haven't ****ed around with all the Alpine's features, like active crossovers and what not, which the Clarion doesn't have. If you want something that plays MP3s, is relatively easy to use and doesn't cost a whole lot, go with the Clarion, but if you're looking for really good SQ and a whole lot of customization to your system, then go with the Alpine. On another note, you may want to check the Alpine 7995 at Crutchfield... on sale for $300, I'd pick it up over the other 2 decks for that price. Only downside, it doesn't have a built in amp, which is fine if you're amping your speakers, of course.

Both are well respected and make good stuff. If your really not sure, then just go with the one that looks the best. Take this for what it is worth: There is an alpine/clarion dealer 2 hours from here. The owner was talking to the owners of the local shop one day. He said that not only did clarion sound better in his opinion, but they had been much more reliable for him than alpine. I did run the clarion 835mp for a couple of months...nice deck(and that price on thezeb is a great deal). Good luck with whatever you buy.
