Cone Area between 1 12 and 2 10s

With all things being equal with power is there anyway to get a single 12 vented to hit as hard or harder than 2 10s vented and not sacrifice SQ? 9 times out of 10 when I tried to get satisfactory bass from one 12 it always fell short to 2 10s in output and sq.

If the 12's are nicer than the 10's it's possible but all things equal 2 10's are going to be a little louder than a single 12.

I've had better luck getting loud (on the meter) with single sub. On paper it's 50% more cone area only so should be marginal difference either way
