G6 GT Transplant/New Build

Ordering a pair of these since I have a side post battery. Should simplify the Big 3 - Big 4 under the hood and in running the power wire to the trunk.

When I had my '94 Thunderbird I was able to find a dual post battery that was 1,000 CCA at 0 Degrees F and then something like 1,200 at 32 Degrees F. Was one of those original Energizer Car Batteries man was that thing great and only 88 bucks back then. Made things so much easier to mount stuff to.

My batcap had vertical top posts and I could put many ring terminals on both sides. I think I literally had a 2.5" or so long bolt because of all the wires I had. Worked well, actually.

The transfer starts today. I decided not to order the plated terminals as brass was available locally. I am going to start with the Big 3 and Circuit Breaker then run the 0awg to the back. I may also do the head unit swap today. Oh, I am going to swap in the eXcelon HU, run the 4 channel on all 4 corners, components up front, 6x9's in the rear. The RF subs will be out and I am going to run the Dayton Audio Ultimax 10 on 400+w @ 4 ohms set with a -10db tone. The rest will be -5db. The head units TA and crossovers will be fine so I will not be using the 3Sixty.3 in this car. I will save it for the next vehicle. Simple swap/install.

Holy crap!! Got the amps and DSP out of the coupe along with removing the Kenwood and reinstalling the OEM radio and reconnecting the monsoon amp. At least there is sound in the old car. All that is left is to finish removing the RCA cables, power and ground wires and stuffing it all in the 4 door. I can take my time installing stuff into the 4 door. I need a shower.

The new battery terminal installation and Big 3 upgrade wasn't without its "Oh ****" moment as I tried to burn the car down. My second oldest wrench, my 14mm GearWrench slipped and wedged right between the terminal post. You can imagine what came next. A bright glowing weld then a flame from the weld as I looked for something to knock the wrench off with. In the end the car nor the battery sustained any damage. The nut on the negative terminal now has a permanent piece of my wrench welded on it. My wrench though...

Making some progress today. I am kind of taking my time to run wires and cables. Got a good and hidden ground. I will be swapping out that distribution block for a fused one I have here in a few minutes. So I have a 300 amp breaker at the battery and two fused power cables near the amps. Still have to install the head unit. (15min job as all harnesses are made and it literally just needs to be plugged in and mounted) run RCA cables, run power from front to back. Then it's set gains, go to work happy tomorrow.

Almost done. Dash is back together. Power cable is run as well as all 6 channels of RCA's. Now I hook up the 4 channel spear wires. Fronts to the temporary Audiopipe crossovers then into the factory speakers wires at the factory amp. Rears will go straight to the rear OEM wires. Sub is already hooked up at 4ohms. Gains will be set shortly. I should be able to pick up a switched 12v at the monsoon amps harness, the pink wire, fingers crossed.

20min wasted. I tested the pink wire and nothing. Tested the remote in the fuse box. Nothing. I figure, must be a bad ground. Nope... then it hits me. I have a circuit breaker under the hood. Reset it, hook up the pink wire and BAM, I have amplifier power!! Jesus. Should be done in an hour or so now.

WHEEEW!!! DONE!!! Back deck speakers are not connected as they are pretty blown sounding. Just the kenwoods in the front doors and the factory tweeters in the little factory triangles by the side mirrors. They sound decent. Set gains by ear for now. I will set them again after I replace the rear speakers and the front speakers. The Dayton sounds gooooood.
