i have an amp that can push 1000w rms in 2 and 4 ohms...is there any difference between the two?....will the amp perform better running in 2 or 4?.....(i mean better like run cooler, more efficient...ect.)....thanks guys.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

the lower the ohm level is set the more voltage youll be pulling. but did you say it runs at 1000w at 2 AND 4 ohms? why is that? wouldnt it be something like 500 at 4ohm and 1000 at 2ohm. never seen an amp put out the same wattage on two different ohm levels

Have you never heard of the following?

JL slash series (1.5-4ohms same power)

Phoneix Gold Xenon (1-4ohms same power)

JBL BP series (2;4ohms same power)

Normally lower ohm loads produce less efficiency. I dunno how that applies when talking about the above amps though.

no. never heard of that. nice bit of info tho. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

The PG Xenon amps in particular were MUCH more efficient into a 4 ohm load. All of those amps will be more efficient into the 4 ohm load. Simple Ohm's law stuff. Same power into a lower impedance means higher current on the outputs. Higher current means a higher voltage drop. Higher voltage dropped wih higher current menas more power lost as heat.

2x 4 ohm coils can be wired parallel to 2 ohms or series to 8 ohms. There's many amps with 2 ohm power you can use.
