This is my first attempt at a trunk IB set up. I know the equipment is not exactly what I want for an IB set up, it's just the equipment I had collecting dust in the basement. The first thing I will change will be the subs. I may step up to 18"s at that point. Progress is a little on the slow side as I'm mostly limited to the weekends. I'd consider this a budget set up so equipment will reflect that.

First I was found a guy who wanted to trade an OEM headunit for an off brand RCD330. I wanted the OEM style. He was wanted to trade as it was draining the battery in his TDI. Just had to do a little wiring change and it has been okay.

Headunit install:

Next I started working on the initial baffle. Deciding what I had room for and what I could do. I played back and forth with measurements and trimming to get what I needed for clearance. The subs are a pair of 15" Q Power Black Mambas. Nothing special, I just had one laying in the basement new in box and the other lived in an old garage enclosure I was giving like 10 watts.

Cutting the baffle:

I didn't get any pictures of running the wiring but we all know what 1/0 gauge running through a car looks like. I'm awaiting some distribution blocks, fuse blocks, 4 Gauge wire and 4 gauge to 8 gauge adapters to shop up to finish the wiring side of the build and being able to initial hear the set up. I have a lot to go with bracing and sealing the trunk from that cabin but one step at a time.

After getting the box in I played with amp placement. I have held onto this Orion XTR1400 for years. I wanted to display it. So I came up with this false wall idea. It was a little touch and go on opinions if the wall will disturbed the IB nature of the set up but I figured the materials were cheap enough and it was only time. I'll give it a shot. Started with 1/2 MDF. I ordered some cheap grille material off Amazon. Carpet was on sale at the local fabric shop and matched pretty well. Used a 1 1/2" desk grommet for the power wires and a 3/4 grommet for the RCA's. To trim out the grille I used 1/2" x 1/2 oak trim stained with a char stain. I like the tone it took on and may try to implement more of it later on. The blue light I just threw a blue rag over my light to get an idea. I may run a blue LED wire in with the trunk light so it will illuminate with the trunk open.

I don't know enough about IB but to me it looks like that may affect it negativity. How does it sound?
Still waiting on some stuff to finish the wiring so I'm not sure yet.

It seems 50/50 on the false wall. It's not sealed anywhere, has a 2" gap along the top of the trunk plus the large vent cut into it. Time will tell once the wiring stuff gets here.

It looks really nice. Sealing the trunk off from the cabin will make a huge difference. You don’t want that rear wave doing anything except dying in the trunk. Having the trunk leak into the cabin will cancel out a lot.
