I am going to build a new box for 2 Polk SR104's and tho I have built boxes before, I never designed one so I thought I'd ask here first.

Sub specs are

Fs = 35 Hz

Qms = 9

Vas = 0.777 cu.ft

Xmax = 0.64 in

Sd = 53.69 sq.in

Qes = 0.5

Re = 3.5 ohms

Z = 4 ohms

Pe = 700 watts

Box I have in mind is 37Lx11Hx16D for 2.83c/ft before displacement.

After displacement I got 2.16c/ft. .12 for each sub, .46 for the port if I calculated correct.

Port is 2.5"W x 9.5"H x 24"L made from 3/4 MDF

Which WinISD says puts the tuning at 32.68

Does this all sound reasonable ? I would welcome suggestions, or if any of yall want to run the #'s feel free. Box is going in an 07 Mustang behind the back seat, subs and port facing foward. The hole there is 11.5x38" give or take. Subs will be powered by a MBQuart DSC2000.1 @ 2 ohms for 1000 watts RMS.

looks fine ports calculated right well within .25 hz so right for me. the polks should do fine, though they are going to want more power than 1000 rms. if you havent bought them yet id get the dual 4 and wire them to one ohm

Thanks for the replies guys.

Winky I already have the subs and amps, but they are in a box Polk reccomended and the port is too small. I have had them for 6 months and every time I crank on it I smell glue burning. I talked to the local shop (Steve Cook owns it) and his box guy said maybe a larger port would help. Current box is 1.84c/f port is 1.75x9.5x15 tuned at 36.78 according to Polk.

Also I would prefer a center port in a T shape. Given that it is 2.5" wide x 24" long with a 16" deep (outside) would I take the port back 14" @ 2.5" wide, then split it off into two 1.25" wide ports x 5" long ? If I am off, could someone please explain how to figure a T shaped port ?

The Kappa's have a high sensitivity rating of 93 db so the X802-5 would be fine. A good high sensitivity 8" sub in a properly sized box would fit...
