recommend me a new subwoofer to saveweight/space

Right now I have one 15" rockford hx2 sub

in a 2.5 foot sealed box running off a

rockford p5002 at 500watts rms @ 4 ohms

bridged. Ive had this sub since 2001 and it

still hits like the first day I bought it. Im trying to save some weight and space.

This box/sub weighs at least 60 pounds right

now and sits in the passenger side of the

trunk. My battery is on the driver side and

there will soon be a 5 gallon meth tank on

the passenger side. That leaves the sub to basically sit in the middle of the trunk or I

could move the amp to one side and place a

smaller sub next to it. Id like to shed some weight and space with

a 12" or even 10" sub as long as it will hit as

hard as the setup I have now. I normally

dont listen to music louder then volume 10

but this current sub hits hard at low volumes

without sacrificing sq which is what I like If possible, I would like to make this swap as

simple as can be. In other words, can you

guys recommend me a sub with the proper

sized box that will handle 500 watts rms @ 4

ohms no problem but be a smaller and

possibly lighter then what I have now so I can just swap them with each other?

ill look into those. what I really love about the 15 is the deep tone you hear/feel. can I get that from a 12 or even a 10 in a smaller box?

You could lighten the box. Use fiberglass & good bracing to make it about 3/8" thick. The box will be less than half as heavy & just as tough. Costs a lot & is a bunch of work though. You can get fancy with the design though. You could even use a body panel to use as part of the box to save some more weight as well as materials.

Here's a few that come with enclosures as a package from the manufacturerer. Costs a bit more but made well and compact, right cubes etc.

These are small, powerful, and proven. Also there is some really great deals on some of em if you google around a bit.

I selected 10" since size is an issue, but I only selected combo's that perform like thier bigger cousins.

JL Audio HO110RG-W3v3 (ported, 500 Watt)

JL Audio CS110RG-W3v3 (sealed, 500 watt)

Rockford Fosgate P3L-1X10 (ported, 400 Watt)

Rockford Fosgate P3L-S10 (sealed, only to 300 RMS)
