simple Amp settings question. help!

I have a JL 500 v2 powering two 10" w3

Had them professionally installed, but the bass is too overpowering.

To take away some power from the bass all I have to do is lower the input sens corret?

Will I damage the subs if I adjust this with the subs powered on or playing? I'm assuming I would need to have the system completely off when making any adjustments, but I just want to make sure because it would be easier if I could listen while adjusting.

Are there any other adjustments I would have to make if I were to lower the input sens? The guy who pinstalled it told me not to touch any of the settings because I could damage the subs, but I dont see how lowering the input sens could hurt

Lowering will not hurt the subwoofers, but I would recommend adjusting the radio subwoofer level down. If that's not enough, just go by the shop that installed it & tell him to adjust it. He should do it no charge.

When I turn the subwoofer level down on my alpine head unit, it doesnt really affect the bass level at all. ALl it does is add more treble and mid to my speakers in the back (I know this sounds stupid, but this is really what happens). So basically all I can do is turn down the bass level, but that just makes the speakers sound like ****.
