//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif Good morning

I have my aq's instal since few weeks now. But since 2 or 3 days, something is wrong. They sound differently, not as sharp at all.

I did a quick check at the coils the other day and one was reading 1.8 in paralel (sp???) and the other 2.6 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

The one reading 2.6 ain't playing as loud as the other. They are dual 4 btw.

I never smell them and nothing change since i have them. At high level, they don't sound as loud as they use to and rattle like crazy. I still have to check if it's the subs or the car rattling, but those disguisting rattling weren,t there few weeks ago.

what could have happenned? the coils can't be cook. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif I did demoed it few times lately, but they seems ok at those moment.

so one is reading 1.8 and the other 2.6 in parralel. Can it be a problem?

Otherwise, i'll need to check my box, but it was fine for few weeks, maybe they destroyed it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

pull the one reading 2.6 and see if a wire came loose. if not, then dmm each coil separately and see what load you get.
yeah good idea. I only check them at the box terminal, but wires seems tight inside. I'll read each coil after job today.

what if the coil is separating from the cone? Those subs are hard to push with hand, but i'll look for scratching too.

weather still ***** around here but at least snow is melting //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

I hope i won't need a recone. Those may be hard to find today

after some more testing.... the terminal cup was at fault. I was reading 14.5 on one side (sub that didn't work alot ) and 2.2 on the other. I tighted the cup and my reading was back to 2.2

btw, the terminal cup by itselft add .5ohm. That's a lot isn't it???

Oh and I had a great surprise when i started pushing the subs //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif I'm pretty sure i'm over 145 on music. My old setup was 142 and this one is louder, a lot louder!!! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

.5ohm from a terminal cup!!!!

Ditch those suckers and go direct wire.

well, i might go direct. I didn't know these 2.5$ terminal were that bad. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

I don't like drilling hole in box, it never seems totaly pressure proof no mather what

drill hole just big enough to push the wire through, then glue/liquid nail all around the hole. I would guess that it would be alot more sealed than a terminal cup.

how can you be more sealed than a terminal cup:rolleyes:

i'll see that. wire usually add like what .05ohm for 3 foot

as suggested, drill a hole and run the wire through then seal it up. tis what I did for my daily.
well i got two 2.5diameter holes (where the terminals are). Is it worth to block them with an mdf 3/4 sheet on the outside of the box. can i use something thinner or it will flex?

also, both subs read 1.8 in parellel and 2.2 with the cup. Then in parellel again, so the amp is seing a 1.1ohm load. between a .9ohm and 1.1 ohm load, there should be enough power difference to worth working on the box?, that i can't really remove from the car //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

you shouldn't have to remove the box. and is it worth it to you to have another fuck up because of the cups and have to take it apart again anyway? fix it right this time and forget about it.

For the small space you are talking about, 1/2 mdf and some screws will work fine. If you would like, drill the holes for wire in the 1/2" piece and give it a try.

Few of my previous box had wire holes. It just doesn't feel neat. Anyway, for performance wise, i'll do it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Additinally, no need to reference "max" anything as those specs are useless. Most of know how to look at specs for a given speaker, amp, HU, etc...
