The Ohm Advantage

Hello,

I have a question. I understand how to wire my subs but is there and advantage to wire a sub 4,2,1 ohm's? For example Rockford Punch series, dual voice at either 2ohm or 4ohm. I want two subs, and I will get an amp that can handle the correct RMS and Ohm combo.

But, is there an advantage to wire the subs in 4omh, 2omh, 1ohm, .5omh? Is there any disadvantage to wire the subs in certain ohms, sound quality? This setup is for my pleasure only, not competition. I would prefer tight clean lows.

Thanks for your help,

No. It makes no difference as long as your subs total ohm load is well matched to your amp.

Generally this means a lower load to get the most out of your amp, just because that is the way most car audio amps are designed.

Most stereo amps need to be bridged at 4 ohms, while each individual channel would give max output at 2 ohm.

Mono amps can be 4, 2, 1 or even .5, but it really makes no difference. There is no advantage.

LESS OHMS, LESS WORK, MORE POWER FROM AMP.

If you RTM for any given amp., it will tell you how much watts per channel you will get using different impedances. IE p500.2 4ohms-125x2 2ohms-250x2. So looking at this example you get better power at 2 ohms and can use a 250watt sub for one channel and use the other channel for highs .

LOL! YOU FAIL!!!

Thanks for the update's. I am going to use Rockford again for this question.

The Rockford P500-1bd @ 500watt - 1ohm driving two DVC 4ohm speakers wired to 1ohm or

The Rockford P500-2 @ 250watt x 2 -2ohm driving two DVC 4ohm speakers wired to 2omh separate channels?

No real advantage either way?

(I use Rockford because its easy to use their site for wiring directions.)

Flip a coin.

In theory, the mono amp is designed for subs, so that should be better for you application, but there is no stated advantage in the specs that I can see.

The stereo amp could be more versitale if used for front speakers in the future if you ever upgrade or change things around, but that's not important now.
