The 5086 is 720p, the 5087 is 1080p- there's a good ~$300 difference between the 2, which I couldn't justify at this point in time, with the very little that is available in 1080p.

It came to $1160 shipped from Amazon, which was the cheapest I could find the TV from an authorized dealer.

All local places have the set at $1400-1600, and from what I've been told, will not pricematch Amazon.

The only smaller dealer here I don't like shopping with- they advertise at above MSRP, but you can talk them down a bit. However, they are like hounds when you go in there, they jump all over you. Plus, they pretty much abolished their return policy on larger TV's.

****. There is a good place near me that offers good prices in advertisments and you can negotiate down a lot. However, the salesmen dont have a clue on certain aspects of tv's, so it gets very annoying.

thats too bad with the people near you, but the samsung is a good choice for that price. DLP is always the way to go

Also bought all the necessary cables from Monoprice- picked up an HDMI-DVI cable to go from cable box (HD box here only has DVI) to TV, and component to go from DVD player to TV.

Probably going to upgrade to an upconverting DVD player in the near future- the Oppo units get high praise on AVS, been looking at those.

Going to get to Target and pick up this stand sometime next week most likely:

thats awesome you can use an HDMI cable. Here we have the HDMI on the reciever box, but it doesnt work with Comcast for some reason. They state "its not activated" so we run component videos.

That *****- a lot of people say they prefer component on their cable box over at AVS though, so who knows.

I'm going to see how both component and hdmi-dvi look on the cable box.

well of course HDMI would look better. You would get less signal noise transmitted and a better format throughout.

There was a noticable difference on my Comcast HD box between DVI to HDMI and component video (I have both hooked up so I can flip back and forth) I just hate there is no locking mechanism for the HDMI cable- it doesn't seem real secure to me, but I guess it hasn't fallen out in the last 2 weeks so it's probably fine.

there is no locking mechanism? on my tv i think the inputs hang upside down, wonder if ill have problems

Amazon doesn't like my CC or my bank acct apparently, they keep denying either of them. I used my CC yesterday and spent about $400, so there's no problem with it...and I just got off the phone with the bank, I have more then enough available funds.
