You might have some bad connections that your alt is over compensating for.

I would have the alt diagnosed. It could be making more juice at certain RPM's which would make me suspicious of the internal regulator.

This is what I was thinking. If your vinyl wrapping skills aren't up to par a texture coating would be a nice medium between the two. Chia is tacky. Painted fiberglass which was once revolutionary is even tackier than carpet since it's so overused.
