This will decode DVD audio but you don't need a DVD player or a screen to use this. You'll get the ability to have full control over up to 7 speakers(including a center channel) and 1 subwoofer channel. It can do bandwidth limited, attenuated rear fill. 31 band graphic EQ or 9 band parametric EQ per channel. Time delay. Individual level adjustment. If you like to tweak your system this will let you do that without requiring a laptop to unlock all the features.
There was a random popping sound that I heard which I no longer hear with a JBL MS-8 and different amplifiers. 99.9% of the time the noise floor sounded dead quiet. Full disclosure, this is a budget processor and you'll want to read up on the tips and tricks.
