I'm having some trouble deciding what deck to get...I want to get one with good quality sound...Video is not a necessity, but I do have a double din opening so the w205 would fit nicer...which one would u guys go for?

Eric

I've got the 205, and have played with the 87. It's more of a matter of what will work better. The 87 has imprint, and the 205 can use the 701. The 701 is better for tuning, but you have to work for it. The 87 will do it for you, but you are more limited in terms of sound.

Unit vs. unit (if video is not a main concern) the CDA9887 is an all around better sounding unit. I have the CDA9887 in my Corolla and the IVAW205 w/ blackbird in my wifes Camry. They both sound great, but the controlls on the CDA9887 (if your a tweaker) makes all the difference in the world. That and the 24 bit burr brown DA converter doesn't hurt much either. If you think you might add the PXAH701 processor, that would (in my opinion) put the IVAW205 ahead of the CDA9887 in sound quality and system flexibility. You might also want to consider the IVAW505...pretty much the same as the 205 but with a bigger screen (7" vs. 6.5") and a usb input.

The 505 also has imprint capability, if I'm not mistaken.

Depending on your vehicle, if it has a DD slot fill it up!. IMO a 1Din in a DD doesnt look so great. I dont want to afford the Alpine DD so I am going CLarion.

I like ANY alpine that has an optical output //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I was in the same boat a while back and actually owned a W205 for a few months before changing paths and getting a 9887. I would saw like above if your even considering getting the H701 processor then go for the W205/H701 and be good, otherwise the 9887 will sound better all around and give you a lot more tuning options. There really isn't much tuning that can be done with the base W205 out of the box. If ya got a DD opening it would definitly look better filled, but then again it all comes down to what your priorities are.

I was going with the H701 from day 1, so I needed an alpine that had fiber out. If I wanted a regualr HU without the H701, I would have chosen something else

Get a 505 like me.
If I can afford a 505 I would...A lot of things happened lately that have set me back thousands of dollars //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif...I think I will end up going with the 9887 to save some money...

yea if you don't add the h701 get the 9887. Actually if you are going with a passive comp set, you can save more money by just going with the 9885. the difference between the 9887 and 9885 is that the 9887 has the capability of going active and the 9885 does not.

I'm hoping to find someone who might be able to repair this head unit. The faceplate doesn't slide out at all.
