CA.com resident DIY specialist..

i don't why he is saying you have no processing. i think the 880prs has all you should need in that department. i don't know much about those mids and tweets. do a search over there on diyma on this specific drivers.

alright....please everyone feel free to throw some drivers and amps out there....ill check them out and then grab something based on reviews and whatnot i get around the net.

for some, like myself, the 880 woudlnt' be enough

i say when you start a diy active setup start out slow and then slowly step to better drivers. its really hard to beat the seas ca18rnx + seas neo alum/silk combo. its cheap and you get a lot value for what you pay. that combo alone will be only around $200. you can then spend the rest on a 4 channel amplifier. once you learn the nuances of an active setup then maybe you can step to the big boys (scan revs, seas excel).

so that means that lack of knowledge means you should use a lesser driver?
A driver like a Seas Excel is going to be a lot more revealing, but if the system is set up incorrectly, you could have cone breakup issues and other things that are going to detract from the sound...

On the other hand, while a driver like a Seas CA18RNX might not have all the clarity in the midrange that an Excel would have, the paper cone is going to be a heck of a lot more forgiving of mistakes than the magnesium cone would be.

You could go balls-out to begin with, sure, but the only way I'd recommend that is if you had someone nearby that could help you with tuning and point things out to you.

alright those mids and tweets look good....but if i had half my budget for speakers the other half for an amp then i still could spend another $120 on drivers....should i just put that extra money towards a nicer amp?

thank you for that post....i actually understand....its going to take a lot more time and effort to make very precise drivers do well in any vehicle...so maybe i should stick with the CA18RNX and the seas tweets.
