Cybe's budget home theatre build.

(bring beer)

(bring those b&w alien timecapsules)

I'm surprised nobody (especially tama and lemons) mentioned my speaker wires; They're pretty nasty, and I know it. I hope they don't **** up a bunch of noise. It's unshielded 16g MTX power wire, twisted in a drill. 25 feet long. I got a thousand feet each (red/black) from Mitek years ago for $20.

I'm open to inexpensive suggestions for better wire.

Interconnects are more important than speaker wire. IMO.

For 99% of setups decent quality and size cable will work perfectly. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Very nice. I'd be curious to see how much you stray from the budget.

Also of concern: sound deadening and concealing equipment. Going to hide the projector? In-wall anything? HMMMM?

LabGruppen? lol!
He said budget.

I second the BAsh plate amps.
I figured that 13,000 Watts would be just about right for what he wanted to do.

Hey, Soob.

Fortunately the budget isn't really a set amount; The idea is just to stick with 'bang for your buck' type equipment and treatments. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

This disqualifies LabGruppen completely. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Concealing equipment probably isn't going to be of major concern this first time around - the walls are all block except for the screen-wall, so that really limits my ability to build in.

The walls will be framed up for version 2 - and I'd like to move the screen wall back another 9 feet or so to allow for some novelty/bar room in the back. For now, this will get us through the winter. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I rolled the carpet out to let it loosen up:

The acoustics in the room improved /dramatically/ with the addition of the carpet. I'm stunned by it, really; I didn't take any measurements but decay/reverb/echoes are all diminished greatly. I lucked out. The room rang like a bell with just the pad in.

Installing carpet, and steps leading to theater:

I also picked up some RXL-40, mineral wool from Roxul. It's 2" thick, 4 pounds per cubic foot. Pretty nasty ****, but it's doing a great job. Just under five bucks a sheet.

Put Musashi outside to do some calibration.

Audessy, and some helpers.

Watched Transformers laying around on the floor, then when the first batch went home, grabbed some furniture and finished up a little.

And we're good. Until my 360 RedRinged. That ******.

It's functional again after some .. persuasion. But it's on it's way out.

Today's project is to wrap and hang the RXL, box the insulation up, and do some [serious] cable management.

I won't be showing you that picture. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Solid update.

The build looks to be the epitome of bang for buck. That deadening is cheap as hell, but if it works you saved a lot of cash. Makes me wish I could take on this kinda project...and had a somewhere to put it.

Also, if your box is under warrant, fix it for free while you still can. If not, get the x-clamp.

Here's the first reflection point calculator thread.

X-Clamp? Sounds interesting. Gonna google that up.

*edit: Ah, I haven't opened/modded my 360, so it's still on Microsoft's dime. Thanks for pointing that out. I hadn't heard of any of those aftermarket fixes yet. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
