Does SQ for a sub amp really matter? (also, which amp?)

I'm going to pick up a pair of 10W6V2s and I need a good amp for them. I like the JL G-Max but I've been told it's overrated for the price and I'm reading conflicting reports of whether or not it's 1-ohm stable.

So now I'm looking into a Sundown SAE-1200 or a Hifonics BXi1210. What do you guys think of Hifonics vs. Sundown for SQ?

Also, does SQ play a role in choosing a sub amp or is it all about the power?

I guess I should also mention that I'm going to wire all 4 voicecoils in parallel, to produce a 1-ohm load. So each sub should get 600W if I hook them up to a 1200W amp, which is right at the upper end of their rated RMS range.

You should get more power out of the sundown. And world class support.
What about quality? I chose the expensive W6's because they're efficient and are supposed to sound great. I wouldn't want to drive them with a low quality amp. Keep in mind I don't know much about Sundown, so please enlighten me.

I would not call either on a horrible quality amp. They are not ultra high end by any

means, but look at the price too. I'd go with the Sundown for more power and

excellent service. I would say that the sound and indeed the design on both amps

would be similar, giving a slight edge in all categories to the sundown.

Do a search on sundown in this forum, you will see the owner Jacob personally

getting involved in his customer problems, even when they are the customer's fault.

SQ in a sub amp? You are talking about the spectrum of human hearing where most can't tell a difference, i.e. 80 Hz or lower.

What it would boil down to in your case would be manufacturer support, build quality, and ability to deliver the power you need versus cost alone. I highly doubt that you get 1,200 clean RMS watts out of the Hifonics, just based on their prior track record of overrating power amplifiers. If you need 1200 watts RMS, I highly recommend that you look into the BXi 1608 over the 1208.

One of the things that impresses me about Sundown, is the owner. He is on the forum, and will respond to your questions via email. He also is an internet dealer supporting internet sales, so you shouldn't run into the same warranty problems that you would had you purchased your Maxxsonics product from an unauthorized dealer. Oh, and Sundown offers a better warranty out of the box.

Oh and one more thing.... Sundown uses dB-r as their repair center and dB-r does top notch work when it comes to amp repairs! I've used them to repair non-Sundown amplifiers before, and will use them again if I run into another situation where I can't self repair an amplifier.

I have dealt with Jacob from Sundown on many occasions and the quality of his communication and service has been nothing less than A+++. Sundown should win hands down. Hifonics hasn't been the same since they were sold to Maxxsonics. To me they make disposable amplifiers. They are good budget amplifiers. They are an excellent swap meet brand. Now the XX line of Hifonics is a different story. The XX line is top notch used in a lot of competitions and worth every penny you pay. The Brutus and Zeus series = C+B- quality overall.

Thanks guys //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Let me know if you have any questions on the 1200D specifically. It is actually pretty under-rated so will deliver over 1200 RMS at 12.8 volts.
