Hey all im getting ready to do a box for a friend and im wondering what the optimal port placement and sub placement for the best output in one of these? I have never done a softop before so I thought I would ask the experts...

Oh yeah im thinking one nice 10 with at least 500 watts..

where is the sub going to go? i have the back seats taken out and have a 3.75ft^3 ported enclosure. some people go with a down firing sub with a port also facing down to evenly spread the sound, imo it doesn't make a difference unless you have the top down. this is what i have and it sounds great

i am also selling my old 600rms watt 12" sub from Incriminator Audio if you are interested, i can cut the price down a little knowing that its going to another jeep owner.

you can also check out quadratec.com they sell just about everything for jeeps. they sell a bunch of far over priced enclosures to fit behind the rear seats, i'm sure you could build one on your own to fit behind the rear seat.

So I take it you are going to keep the back seat....right?

If so, you have a little space below the seat to mount an amp and ~1.2cuft net SEALED to work with behind the seat. (Between the back seat and back hatch)

I usually just to a single 12" sealed firing back in that vehicle.

Build the box w/ Birch rather than MDF...seeing that there is a chance of moisture getting to the box w/ the soft-top Jeep.

Good points for sure but I have never been a fan of sealed enclosures, just not enough output for me. If I can't get the airspace I need, ill just go with an 8 ported with a bit more power.

OK it looks like the guy does not want to spend the money on a great woofer so I was looking at these, what do you think?? They are cheap enough for sure, I just hope that two of them would handle at least 500 RMS what do you think? I was thinking a nicely ported enclosure with about 1 cube net tuned to around 36Hz with a nice big port at around 17 SQ" both subs and ports down firing???

Do you think a single DD8 would do.the trick? I might be able to get an up sell for that. I would really like to try the 8 route for this due to the small size.

Be sure to see the sub specs. It should tell you the ideal sealed enclosure size.
