Most electrostatic (crisp) sounding speakers?

Looking to put some speakers in a 993 Porsche, size around 6.5" . Was looking hard at the Focal 165KP's and Diamond Audio's then Focal Utopias and realized I have no freakin clue!

What's most important is they sound really crisp/clear, much like an electrostatic speaker, or ribbon type speaker.

Plan to run them with the current Eclipse head unit, will switch from the big Sony amps to others later I guess. Heard 'bout some Butler amps but dunno.

With that in mind, I'll leave it up to you guys to pick a speaker. Maybe ones that can be had for less on egay (

Thank you for any info you care to share!

The closest I've heard to the ribbon tweeters in my vintage Infinity RS home speakers are the discontinued Monitor Audio Kar series (metal cone), crystal clear and crisp. But they were a limited production and rarely show up on the used market.

For that electrostatic/ribbon sound you're probably going to be looking for "metal cone" components.

The Rainbow Vanadiums might fill the bill, but again don't show up very often for resale. New they are in the $700 range.

Hopefully, Manny (resident Rainbow guru) will chip in his opinions on the Vanadiums.

Of course you could go the DIY route and actually use ribbons in the car!

Thanks for the help in refining the search. Still reading.. Looking more and more like Seas Ref or maybe Rainbows of some sort, some reviewers note the focals are more laid back w/ colouring so fergit that!
