Question about dustcaps...

Is there anything special about dustcaps? Or could I make one if I had access to carbon fiber and a vacuum machine?

A dust cap is just that. A cap that prevents dust from getting into the coil gap. Other than that it just looks cool.

Well it does add weight so technically the lighter the better unless you want to lower the Fs with it.

Does the cone have to setup for a 8 inch cap? Or can you use any size cap ona sub? As long as it doesn't contact the surround

ive seen dust caps before that were the size of the cone, looked kinda odd, but the size of the cap shouldnt make a difference

er, i mean, lets say i take the sub in my avatar, could i put a 8 inch dustcap on there as she sits? Of course i would remove the current dustcap

You can put any dust cap on any sub as long as it doesn't contact the coil in the compressed cycle!

make sure its strong, a cap dose add strength to a cone and for spl you want it really ridged.

make sure to make a decent sized lip to glue it...
