Hello folks, quite new to this forum, I have been slowly piecing together my stereo kit and now I am down to my bass stuff. Here is my current setup as is.
2003 Pontiac Grand Prix GTX
Pioneer 6000 HU
Memphis MClass 6.5" in the front w/ crossovers
Memphis MClass 6x9's in the rear deck w/ crossovers
12" Rockford Fosgate Punch (an old one) in a sealed SubZero box
Current Amps....
HiPhonics Zues 4ch and a Brutus for the Bass
Replacing Amps
(Waiting to be installed) Kenwood KAC-X4C to replace the Zues
(Hopefully) a Kenwood KAC-X1C to replace the Brutus
Replacing the sub box. Here is where my questions are.....
I have plenty of trunk space for a ported inclosure, but I really do love the feel of my sealed 12 currently in there. But I have decided to go with 2 10's instead of 12's in my new setup. One is for weight savings, and the other is the fact that I do no wish to be heard 3 blocks away coming down the road. My musics tastes are stuck in the 70's, 80's and some of the newer alternative rock/metal out there. Rap is something I don't have stored on my 16gb thumdrive connected to my Pioneer.
So from reading various threads I feel secure that keeping with the sealed dual 10 box will be the best way to go. I want the punch and clarity the sealed box offers over the ported or bandpass type boxes. From reading other threads on Sealed vs Ported, I understand you can tune a ported box to near levels of a seal box, but I can't see how they would be same. Cause if they were the same, wouldn't manufactures make only ported boxes then?
Anyways......I am seeking suggestions on which subs would be best for my kind of setup. And also if anyone has any recommendations on different Sub Boxes I would like to hear them. The KAC-X1C at 4om is rated for 600w RMS. So I am looking for a woofers that carry at least that capacity if not a bit more. I am NOT worried about having to have 1200w or something insane like that.
Here is one choice I have found so far that I like.

I also like the Kenwood Excelon 10 series woofers but they are only rated upto 500w RMS using both coils. And even the Memphis Power Reference series are only rated upto 300w RMS, I really do not wish to go overboard on the cost on the MClass Memphis' and I would roll over in my grave if I thought about the Mojo's. But if anyone has any other thoughts on "mid priced" subwoofers that carry 600w RMS are under say $150 each, I would be more than willing to check them out.
And as for the sub box, it has to be less than 35" between my rear wheel wells for it fit adequately. Also its max height has to be 15" and the depth can go as far as 20". I am sure will have good and valid reasons for a ported box over a sealed box and I would surly like to hear them.
