turning ventex into a sealed box

I have an extra vented box but its too boomy and I would preffer having the tight bass sound of a sealed box. Would sealing the vent with foam sealent be a good idea ? It's suppose to be airtight and waterproof

Just cut a properly sized peice of MDF, paint it and screw it down overtop of the port.

Foam sealant will be messy and look terrible, with the MDF you can easily change it back if you want.
