So I have a pioneer nex 4000 hu and sometimes when I use iPod music through the USB I get a crackling noise occasionally on certain songs but when I do cd or hd radio I don't get it ever. Can someone tell me what the issue could be. Thank u

If it's certain songs check the bitrate of the individual songs. If it's low, that noise is probably present in the song no matter how you play it. It could be a bad cable, but since the USB connection is digital, rather than analog I thought it either works or it doesn't.

Your ipod changes the eq of a song no matter if its by aux or usb.

If the h/u has apple support then your basicly playing it off your ipod/iphone not the headunit.
