Hi all, I'm new here and I've come in search of some expert knowledge! I've been into car audio ever since I passed my drivers test back in 2006 and I used to dabble a lot then with amplifiers and subwoofers. Around 2015 I undertook the task of running new speaker wire through into the doors of my S2000 which I would never wish such a task upon anyone! Back then amps and wiring simple but this new stuff these days?! I've recently bought a BMW M4 which I thought was standard but when looking under the carpet in the boot low and behold two expensive Audison amplifiers.

I originally went investigating because I wanted to add a sub woofer to my system. I have attached some pictures so that you can see what I already have. It would appear to be very nicely fitted already and I would imagine it was done by a shop professionally.

So from the images you can see that on the bottom I have an Audison AP F8.9bit amplifier powering all of the speakers around the car, this is working fine and I have no issue with this. However the amp on the top (a mono 1ch amp Audison AP1D) is not powering on. There is a lose speaker wire hanging around in the boot but the light does not come on when the car is on. I have put a multimeter in the positive and negative terminals and it is receiving power. Could this be because no sub woofer is plugged in? I don’t know. Will the amp only power on when it is getting power drawn from a sub? The only random speaker I have hanging around is a home audio speaker - I tried plugging that in and still no light on the amp?

The amount of wires in the back is truly baffling and I dont even know where to start troubleshooting?!? Any advice would be great!

I would pull the amp and bench test it with power and ground wires. If it still doesn't power up, its probably shot. My next step would be to purchase a decent amp and sub, run power, turn on wire and ground. Pull the signal from the existing amp or other speakers. Or you can go to the dealer or a stereo shop and use your children's college fund to get it fixed.
Good luck.
