If it hurts your ears then it’s distorting. That is what’s painful. Might want to back off the gain a bit.
then y u want diff subs? higher wattage subs normally (pretty much always) require more power to get loud.. i had pioneer 3003 port with over 900rms i swapped that out with a bigger box and a fu750 (36 pound) sub at same ohm load it was as loud as the pioneer because it more efficient. i sold that got d2 so i have 300more watts and thats what the fu needed.. so if u wanta be louder look for 2 more efficient subs no high power (unless u upgrading amp).. i like to try new subs too even when i'm happy with what i have., if u have older model sub 5 yrs or so u can always try the newer models or maybe even the type s (supposedly very improved, 1 guy here has them) i've seen those get loud and they on sale $75 each..Honestly if I’m only pushing them to half potential I wouldn’t be able to handle them at full power daily. The pressure they create now is enough to hurt my ears sometimes lol.
